Villa “Sun”
The client’s request was simple — a single-story house with a semi-enclosed courtyard inspired by Eastern philosophy. While sketching, the idea “Sun” emerged: a round inner courtyard surrounded by a house designed parallel to the site’s boundaries. The circular courtyard has no corners, allowing one to follow the sun’s path and enjoy its moving shadows. The roof slopes downward only on the western side, where it changes direction to let more light into the courtyard. At its center — a sundial with a fountain. Coincidentally, the client’s name is also Saulė (“Sun”). The layout is clear and functional. The entrance area with a large window immediately reveals the courtyard view. On the left side is the private zone with bedrooms and a partial second floor containing work and play spaces. On the right — the living area with kitchen, dining room, and living room leading to a glazed terrace. The house ends with a spa zone and a west-oriented pool, where the sun appears to set into the water — an idea reflected in the interior. The interior combines Eastern motifs — Samarkand and Bukhara patterns, carvings, embroidered artworks, and custom-made columns. The floor design radiates toward the center with small copper inlays symbolizing sunrays. Even the main doors invite curiosity and discovery. From every point in the house, the courtyard remains visible, uniting all spaces and creating a sense of harmony and wholeness.
